Since I'm so far behind I'll start with Saturday, Feb.2, the Boy Scouts did a 3 mile hike up to Castello Saraceno in Taormina and Sunday marked the beginning of "Scout week." Sunday afternoon a group of us went for a 24 mile round trip bike ride to Sferro.
Wednesday, Feb. 6, Nick came in second place at in the chess club tournament, he was very excited. On Thursday, Feb. 7th we had our first homeschooling book club meeting. The kids all read The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. While at the meeting I finished sewing on a belly cast to a canvas, I forgot to take a picture...rats. On Thursday and Friday night the boys had some friends sleep over, Skylar and Gunnar.
On Friday, Feb 8th, we went rock climbing at the Cave with our homeschooling group and then we got a sitter and went to some friends house for game night. On Saturday, Feb 9, Bud and I went for a 20 mile ride up to Motta for a cappuccino and later that afternoon was the big Blue and Gold banquet, the Boy Scouts anniversary. It was a huge success! Bud, Cub Master of Pack 53, did a wonderful job! Thomas earned the rank of WEBELOS and is now working on his Arrow of Light.
Yesterday, Feb. 10, a group of us tried a new biking route. A 27 mile ride up a very long hill and down a very fast hill on the other side!
We are all doing well and looking forward to this weeks homeschool Valentine's Day party on Wednesday.
Ciao,
Heather

Another lost
There is a huge black cloud over our community. We had more bad news Wednesday. That's 3 deaths since Saturday. Michael's memorial service was Thursday, today is Mr. Gipson (the driver, he's back in the states with his family now) and then Saturday is Mr. XXXXX service. Mr. XXXXX went missing Tuesday morning, never showed up for work. His car was found on the other side of Mt. Etna and his body was found a few hours later. He leaves behind a wife and 2 teenage children. We are all at a lost!
Just to give you an idea of how small our community is, an aircraft cattier carries about 3000 people. We have just under 4000 here in Sigonella.
I don't know what else to write about,
Heather
